Kidou 101 (Demon arts)

Kidou are a type of sorcery used by Shinigami. They can be used for various purposes, such as healing, attacking, and restraining. Healing seems to be a more general skill, while attacking and binding require an incantation to be recited beforehand. Kidou spells are divided into two major groups: Hadou (Way of Destruction), used for direct attack, and Bakudou (Way of Binding), which are spells that restrain someone or have other effects. These forms of kidou spells are performed by calling out a complicated and often long-winded incantation followed by the name of the spell, which causes an effect once the name has been recited. Lesser versions of the spells can be used by calling out the name alone, but their effectiveness is reduced when used in such a fashion.

These spells are graded on a scale of 1 to 99, the latter being the most powerful and the most difficult to perform. In order to use kidou one must recite the incantation, state the name of the spell, and call its number. For someone skilled enough in a particular kidou spell, the incantation is not necessary, but reciting it will increase the potential power of the spell. There are three main types of kidou: Bakudou, Hadou, and Reihei (Temporary word) (Way of Healing). Bakudou are a broad category referring to anything designed to halt or deter an enemy, hadou refer to anything designed to specifically harm an enemy, and healing spells, which do not require names, numbers, or incantations to cast, simply heal the Shinigami's comrades. Even a lower-level hadou, such as "Byakurai" (White Lightning), can be utterly devastating when used by a skilled and powerful user. Kidou can also be strengthened by certain methods, such as concentration, training, and transformations.

You will be tested on various kidou techniques, and be given assignments to report on within this thread. Only the assignments once completed will be posted here, questions and concerns must be taken through the proper channel (Q and A).

For the moment all academy students must refrain from using any spell outside the classroom as the novice spiritual pressure (reitsu) controlling skill level of most of you may yield destructive outcomes.

Those students nearing graduation who display specialization in the hadou may be under the watchful eye of the Kidou Corps and as such may further be called upon to join.
